Insurers give Responsible Care positive appraisal
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has given BCDTA’s Responsible Care (RC) programme a positive appraisal as a well-established system of risk management.
ABI is the leading trade association for the UK’s insurance industry and it will be distributing an on-line summary of its assessment of the Association’s RC programme to its 400 member companies.
As BCDTA’s Director, Peter Newport, explains, member companies should bring the ABI’s assessment to the notice of their insurance company or broker when discussing renewal premiums.
“The assessment demonstrates that our RC programme is an important factor in controlling risk. It can be used to support an argument to increase discounts and or reduce premium loading factors which should either lower a premium or, at least, limit its level of increase.”
In these discussions, members should be prepared to demonstrate their full compliance with RC and provide evidence to their broker or insurance company on the health, safety and environmental performance of their own company.
“The annual Indices of Performance return, the three-year Improvement Plans and details of RC training courses attended should be kept up-to-date and submitted on time – because they could now be crucial to reducing insurance costs,” said Peter Newport.
The ABI appraisal also welcomes the European Single Assessment Document (ESADII) to be launched later this year, as a further demonstration of improving and independently verifiable standards.
“The ABI’s assessment means Responsible Care membership delivers tangible business benefits to member companies – because it is a mandatory, effective and well-established programme that has demonstrated year-on-year improvements in the industry’s health, safety and environmental performance,” said Peter Newport.
“Members can download the ABI assessment from the BCDTA’s new website or contact the Crewe office for a copy,” he added.
