John Parkinson, CBA’s longserving Responsible Care Co-ordinator, has decided to retire at Christmas 2007.
He will not be losing touch with CBA members as he will be attending CBA Regional Meetings and some Association events.
John became Responsible Care (RC) Co-ordinator in April 1994 having accepted the task of selling the novel concept of RC to member companies. Over the next few years, increasing numbers of companies made a commitment to RC and the Association began to publish annual Indices of Performance. The UK programme provided a template for the emerging European RC programme.
John’s success in developing the programme to the point where 85% of member companies subscribed to RC gave CBA Council a firm foundation for its decision to make RC a condition of membership on 1 January 2002.
He was also instrumental in developing ESAD - the European Single Assessment Document – and ESADII. He also played a major part in developing the Product Stewardship Accord between chemical producers and distributors.
CBA Chairman, Ken Gilkes said, “I would like to pay a personal tribute to John’s contribution to the Association. Over the years, he has been at the very heart of the industry’s efforts to raise its standards of health, safety and environmental management. We are all very grateful to John for all his endeavours which have taken CBA to its respected position at the cutting edge of Responsible Care.”
