Measuring Progress

CBA's Responsible Care programme contains two integral measures of progress - one examines individual company performance and the second provides a series of year-on-year industry benchmarks.

Company Performance

Companies must complete and return two measures of their health, safety and environmental performance to CBA in October each year. They are: a Self-Assessment Questionnaire and an Improvement Plan.

Industry Benchmarks

Each year, CBA members provide Indices of Performance covering key aspects of Responsible Care. This data is aggregated and published. It aims to provide members, employees, local communities, regulators and other stakeholders with a benchmark against which to measure the industry's year-by-year performance.

The annual Indices of Performance cover:
  • Fatalities and Reportable Injuries
  • Lost Time Accidents
  • Dangerous Occurrences (non-transport)
  • Transport Incidents
  • Waste Disposal
  • Convictions
