Representing Members
The primary role of CBA is to represent its members and safeguard the interests of the industry.
The effectiveness of CBA as the voice of the industry depends on three factors:
- a deep understanding of the industry and how it operates;
- a continuous and constructive dialogue with members; and,
- a long-term working relationship with politicians, civil servants and officials of non-governmental organisations
Today, effective business representation is essential.
Recent years have seen unprecedented change. Waves of international takeovers and mergers have taken place. Large parts of key industrial sectors are in the process of consolidating. As financial markets, shareholders and other stakeholders demand ever-increasing levels of return; globalisation has been the key focus for most businesses.
But these commercial pressures are only one side of the equation.
Governments around the world have concentrated key parts of their legislative and regulatory programmes on business and the chemical industry has felt the full force of increasingly strict regulation. It has become a key target for many Governments to reduce the impact the chemical industry has on the environment.
CBA will not allow the case for the chemical distribution industry to go by default. It will continue to speak out for its members – underlining the cost of legislation and its potential effect on business whilst, at the same time, promoting continuous improvements in the industry's environmental performance.
