PFAS in the UK & EU – Regulatory Land…

PFAS in the UK & EU – Regulatory Landscape

PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a very large class of synthetic chemicals (many thousands of them) characterised by strong carbon–fluorine bonds, which give these chemicals their sought after chemical properties. Because of their chemical stability, they are often called “forever chemicals”: they persist in the environment, do not break down easily, and can accumulate in living organisms. Exposure pathways include industrial emissions, consumer goods (like textiles, cookware, cosmetics), food packaging, and runoff from firefighting foam use.
Some PFAS are known to have toxic effects on people and the environment and this has lead to the whole group of chemicals coming under global regulatory scrutiny.

In this online clinic we will cover the current EU and UK regulatory picture for PFAS chemicals and also look what is on the horizon.
