Customs Declaration System (CDS) An overview for Importers

14 July 2022

Online

The Customs Declaration Service (CDS) replaces The Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight system (CHIEF) on Imports from the 1st October 2022. The Clinic is to support the Practical side of CDS for Importers (not Declarants).
This short clinic is designed to explain:
What an importer needs to do to get ready for CDS
• Logging into CDS and setting up additional users of CDS on the government gateway
• Checking current deferment details and the new direct debit needed
• Authorising agents to use your DDA and or cash account
• The new data requirements needed to instruct a forwarder – and what current standing data needs to be reviewed
• Valuation declarations – the differences and new questions on the customs entry only importers can answer
• Incoterms – full details needed on CDS entries not just 3-letter
• The new style of IP/OP authorisation number and how they need to be declared
• Entering your licences and authorisation number onto CDS Portal
• Comparing a CHIEF entry view with a CDS entry view
This presentation will be delivered Strong and Heard LLP. – International Trade Consultants. S&H LLP was formed in 1995 and pride themselves on being a “one-stop-shop” for any international trade question or export training, export support, import training and customs compliance requirement.
This is the latest in our ongoing series of “Online Clinics” and “Best Practice Workshops”, part of our new initiative to increase the value of membership. Watch out for other such events going forward.
