Understanding Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulations (PPWR) for businesses in the UK

The EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation applies from 12 August 2026, and UK exporters will need to comply when selling any packaged goods to the EU non-compliance could result in goods being rejected at EU borders.

This session is built specifically for UK businesses navigating that exposure. We start by establishing exactly when and how PPWR reaches across the UK–EU border, including the particular complexity facing businesses supplying Northern Ireland. Under the Windsor Framework, most PPWR provisions apply to packaging placed on the Northern Ireland market, creating a dual regulatory landscape for UK producers operating across different markets.

We then work through the obligations; recyclability grades, recycled content targets, packaging minimisation, the Declaration of Conformity and what they mean in practice for chemical supply chains.
