The Chemical Business Association (CBA) has highlighted several legislative and practical concerns with the provisions of the Offensive Weapons Bill currently being considered by Parliament. Introducing new controls on the sale of firearms, knives, and corrosive substances, the Bill is a response to a series of recent terrorist and criminal attacks using these weapons.

The latest report from the Chemical Business Association (CBA) shows that the number of accidents in the chemical logistics sector fell to an all time low in 2017, despite its member companies making more than one million journeys to deliver four and a half million tonnes of chemicals.

The latest Responsible Care report from the Chemical Business Association (CBA) shows a year-on-year increase in the number of accidents though the long-term trend continues to decline. The number of transport incidents continues to fall, despite higher volumes of chemicals being delivered. CBA’s 2017 report on the health, safety, security and environmental performance of its distributor member companies marks the twenty-fifth year in which this aggregate data has been published for the chemical distribution sector. The Report is based on returns from 89 companies employing 5,825 people.

Order books, current sales, and sales margins have all remained in positive territory since the last CBA Trends Survey three months ago (March 2018). Current sales margins are weak and the outlook, over the next three months, for future sales margins has turned negative. Employment levels are forecast to increase over the next three months. The CBA’s latest on-line Trends Survey was conducted during the two weeks, 4-18 June 2018, and is based on responses from 50 member companies.
