‘LIVING THROUGH A PERFECT STORM’ – CBA CHAIRMAN

In a message to members of the Chemical Business Association, its Chairman, Darren Budd, Commercial Director, BTC-Europe, has said that the challenges faced by the industry – Covid-19 and Brexit – amounted to a ‘perfect storm’ for many companies.
He said, “We have the immediate reality of the Covid-19 pandemic and waiting in the wings we have the prospect of further Brexit uncertainties.”

Supply Chain Trends Survey- March 2020

The latest Supply Chain Trends Survey from the Chemical Business Association shows a continuing positive trend for order books and current sales – though this trend is forecast to decline rapidly over the next three months. Sales Margins are neutral and are also forecast to decline in the immediate future. Employment and training trends remain positive.

CBA WELCOMES POTENTIAL ACCESS TO CHEMICALS DATABASE

The Chemical Business Association (CBA) has welcomed the UK Government’s intention to ‘agree data sharing mechanisms’ through its Brexit negotiations with the European Union (EU). Peter Newport, CBA’s Chief Executive, said, “This is a positive step forward and will be welcomed by the UK chemical supply chain. It is an approach CBA has advocated as the simplest and most cost effective method of maintaining chemical safety and animal welfare.”

MAJOR FALLS IN ORDER BOOKS AND SALES – CBA TRENDS SURVEY

Both order books and current sales have fallen by 60% in the three months since the last Supply Chain Trends Survey in April 2019. Sales margins have declined by 40%. The number of companies expecting to create more jobs in the next three months has fallen to its lowest level since these Surveys began six years ago.

CBA PUBLISHES PLAN TO MAKE UK REACH WORKABLE

NO YEAR-ON-YEAR RISE IN TRANSPORT INCIDENTS
The CBA’s annual report on the performance measure for its road haulage, warehouse, and tank farm members – the Logistics Index – reveals four transport incidents in 2018 – the same as the preceding year. None of these road traffic accidents involved a release of chemicals.
In 2018, CBA logistics member companies made nearly one and a quarter million journeys to deliver more than four million tonnes of chemicals.
